OAK > SNA > MEX > VSA

Well, we made it to Villahermosa!

Our morning started with a 3/330am or so wake up time. Our flight out of Oakland was at 615am. We hauled the two boxes, two large suitcases, small carryon suitcase and our backpacks and ourselves, of course. We checked in the four large baggage. We made the flight to Orange County/Santa Ana... phew! One leg down, two more to go!

Next part was really dumb. We had to claim our bags in baggage claim and re-check them to Mexico City. Why we couldn't check them and ourselves straight to Mexico City, I don't know. It's probably because we are non-rev passengers. Oh well... I guess that's just what we "pay" for. We get to Mexico City and get down to baggage claim and we get three out of four of the baggage. We wait and wait and then all of sudden... the carousel stops with only maybe three pieces of baggage on the belt. WTF dude!?! Turns out someone who has the same exact looking luggage we have took it by mistake. When his luggage came by, I even picked it up myself thinking it was ours! I, of course, put it back down cause his had red zippers all on the front. Ours was all black. So when you're at baggage claim picking up your baggage, make sure it really is yours! We end up talking to a SWA employee who was sitting there by the carousel. She was awesome and totally helped us out! We called the number that was on the tag (Note to self: ALWAYS ALWAYS put updated bag info tags on bags!!) and she talked to the guy who took our bag. She tracked him down somewhere in terminal and came back. We had to go out and meet up with him. At this point our cart is loaded with the three pieces of baggage. Scott and the lady went ahead in front of me as I pushed the cart behind them. We exit the baggage/customs area and a security lady stops me in my tracks as we were rushing to get to the guy who has our luggage. She says stuff, which I don't understand and then points to a sign. It says NO CARTS BEYOND THE CUSTOMS AREA. Something like that. What the F dude! How are you not allowed any carts in a airport in one of the biggest cities in the world. NO CARTS! You have got to be kidding me! We have a total of 5 pieces, plus our two backpacks trekking all over who knows where in the Mexico City Airport. We somehow managed to put the boxes on top of the two large suitcases and haul that all around. We were actually listed on AeroMexico but that was in a different terminal and you had to go up and take a tram to the other terminal. So, we end up getting tickets on InterJet which was on the same terminal. Oh but wait, there's more. We find the InterJet counter, BUT it turns out it was the Int'l counter. Oy! We had to go to the domestic counter so we had to trek all the way four long wide doors down to get to the domestic side. It was pretty crazy! We managed to get everything all in one piece to the domestic counter and checked in and everything. Phew! That whole ordeal was finally over. We grab a bite to eat since we had about an hour and forty five minutes to kill before the flight. If I can give you another piece of advice when traveling is to eat whenever you can. No joke. Do it. Even when you're not really hungry cause you never know when your next meal will be. It paid off today!

Third leg of the day: We get on InterJet MEX > VSA and the flight was empty. So it was quick and easy. It was a quick flight too. One hour almost exactly. We grab all of our bags, again, NO CARTS! What's up with this country and no carts?! We don't get it. How do any of the airports that we've been to here not allow carts?! Anyway, we're finally here at our hotel. It's hot and humid. It's kind of a shock coming from the Bay Area where there are crazy microclimates everywhere, including the city of San Francisco itself. We met up with our coordinators, Catherine and Joey, by accident as we were checking in and they stopped by later on to the room and had a nice chat!

There is a Starbucks and Chili's and a Domino's Pizza around the corner. I guess we will be eating at those places during the week. Yes! Starbucks around the corner! We're SUPER happy about that!

It's now Thursday 12:30am. We have been up for about 20 hours or so. Time to go to bed! More to come as things progress here.
